Sight Unseen

It’s difficult to have faith in what we don’t see. In this day and age, we’ve been scammed and catfished so often, that we want hard evidence before we proceed with anything. A guarantee. Experience teaches us that it’s sometimes necessary to get all the facts up front.

I experience this mindset often when I’m doing online shopping. As convenient as it may be, it requires a ‘sight unseen’ type of faith in whatever vendor I’m purchasing from. Will the product be as described? Will it really work? Are the measurement descriptions truly accurate? Am I going to have to pay to return it? So many unknown variables can actually lead us to not going through with the purchase.

When I make a purchase online, I’m putting in my request. It’s received and, generally, followed by a period of waiting. That waiting time includes my order being processed, packaged, shipped, and then, finally, delivered. Oddly enough, the waiting tends to be the more challenging aspect. Especially if there is a delay.

That sounds exactly like a faith-walk to me. As funny as it may sound, the worry and anxiety that at times tries to creep when waiting for an answer to a prayer is a bit similar to the same worry and anxiety we experience when waiting for our package to arrive. God heard me, right? Did I pray the “right” prayer? Should I pray again? Did my order go through? Why didn’t I get a confirmation? When will it ship? Why is it taking so long to arrive?  All sorts of questions start to cycle through our mind when we enter that “waiting” period.

But just as there is a certainty and a guarantee with those ‘sight unseen’ online purchases we make, it’s even more so with our prayer life. The God that we serve is not a failing God. He’s a prayer answering one. So the guarantee that we have with our faith-walk is that beyond any doubt that tries to overtake us, our prayers are answered. God delivered over and over in every circumstance through the scriptures. That is another assurance we can grasp. Over two thousand years later, he’s the same God

So just as sure as we have confidence in the natural things we don’t see, like the air we breath, be just as sure about God and that future you desire. Trust that God will take that request you made and perfect it in a way that only he can before it arrives to you. You don’t have to worry about how you’re going to make it work when God is already working it out.

Stay Sunny!
